Love God, Love people
“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: “Love your neighbor as yourself” Matt 22:36-39.
God loves us and He wants us to love Him. God also wants us to love one another. Love is what matters the most to God. Sometimes someone does something mean. God still wants us to love them because God still loves us even when we do not always do the right things. When we have a heart filled with love, God can use us to show His love to others. By showing our love, we act it out. We can do this by being nice, being obedient or being helpful. We can share toys. Ask someone who is sitting alone if they would like to play together. We can stand up for someone who is being bullied. We can help take out the trash or help a neighbor clean up their yard. We can smile or hold the door open for someone. All of these are examples of ways to show God’s love and sometimes even the smallest thing can make the difference in someone’s day or even life. We never know what will create in a steppingstone for someone to see the heart and love of the Father and bring them into communion with Him.
Activity:
Think of ways to show God’s love to friends, neighbors and others in our lives. Leave a nice note or bottle of water for the mailman. Draw a picture for a teacher. Bake cookies or make a treat for a family member or friend.
Here’s an easy one of my favorite easy ones to try:
Use melting chocolate and dip strawberries and oreo cookies in it. Lay flat on a saran wrap or parchment paper lined cookie sheet. You can decorate with sprinkles or drizzle with white chocolate if you’d like. Then place the cookie sheet in the freezer for 30 minutes. You can put them in a decorated or clear bag and attach a note or smiley face to it and then hand them out to those who you want to bless with a show of God’s love.
