Jesus, the lamb of God
Jesus, the lamb of God
“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” John 1:29
When God told Adam not to eat from a certain tree in the garden, God told him if he did eat it, he would die. God says the cost of sin is death. When Adam and Eve ate from that tree, God covered them in animal skins which means an animal had to die. Later in the Bible, after the Israelites left Egypt, God gave a set of rules to them. One of those rules was to pay for their sins by killing a certain animal. In some cases, a lamb could be used to pay for their sins. Not just any lamb would do. The lamb had to be perfect and have no flaws (Lev 4:32).
Do you know why we don’t do this anymore? Why we don’t kill an animal every time we sin. Because of Jesus! Jesus is the lamb that paid the price for all our sins. He lived a perfect life on earth so God used him as the final lamb to cover all our sins when he died on the cross.
Jesus took the place of all the lambs that would be needed to cover all of our sins so he is called the lamb of God.
This is why we celebrate Easter! We thank Jesus for his sacrifice. Because of what Jesus did, we know our sins are covered and forgiven.
To remember what Jesus did on the cross, trace your hand on a piece of paper. In the center the palm on your hand drawing, color a red circle. You can write “Paid in full” at the bottom. Jesus paid the price so will not have to!
Until next time,
Happy sowing!
