In the Beginning
God made everything!
God made the whole world but before He made the whole world He made the place where the stars live. Out there He made other planets and comets too. The same day, He made the earth too. (Get a globe or a world map and point to where you live on the planet). When he made the earth there was nothing on it. It was dark and it was empty (turn off the lights) so He said “Let there be light” (object lesson #1 – flashlight game) and then there was light! So now we have daytime and nighttime. (sing this little light of mine)
The next day He made the heavens and created the oceans. Then the next day He put all the water in one place so the land would show up so now we have beaches. Now that He could see the land, He put flowers, trees, bushes and grass on it so we could have apples, oranges, pears, bananas, green beans, grapes, peaches, plums, lettuce and tomatoes to eat. What’s your favor fruit? Great! Well God made that too. He made all the fruits, plants and vegetables in the whole world. (object lesson #2 – flower).
The next day He made a sun for the daytime and a moon for nighttime so now we can see when we go outside better. The sun helps the plants grow and keeps us warm. The moon helps the oceans make waves. He also filled the sky and the oceans with animals. He made whales, octopus, sharks, red fish, blue fish, small fish and big fish. He made red birds, yellow birds, blue birds and birds with lots of colors. Can you chirp or tweet like a bird? Can you make a fish face?! (object lesson # 4 – sensory bottle)
The day after that, He made animals. How many animals can you name? Great! He made all of those. He made tigers, giraffes, elephants, lions, bunny rabbits, caterpillars that become butterflies, zebras, hippos, rhinos, lizards and snakes. Guess what else?! He made cows too. What sound does a cow make? What sound does a dog make? What about a cat? Well He made all of those! (object lesson #5 – make finger puppets or animal masks)
Then after He made all of the birds, the animals, the plants, the trees, the sky, the stars, the moon and the sun, He made a person. We are so special to God that He didn’t just talk to make us. He thinks we are so special that He saved us for last! He built us with His own hands because He likes to be close to us. He wanted us to look like Him so that is how He made us. (object lesson # 6 – make a person). He wanted us to have everything, so He built everything here for us and waited until it was good to make us. He wants us to have everything good because He is good God.
Let’s learn the verse “In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth”, Genesis 1:1.
This means that everything began with God so we should make sure we start everything with God too. Let’s think of ways we can do this. We can sing a song like This is the day or Jesus Loves me. What are some of your favorite songs about God or Jesus we can sing in the morning? Another way we can begin with God is to pray or read a scripture. Sometimes we memorize scriptures and we can use these or we can learn some more. What are some scriptures you can think to use? Some of my favorites are “This is the day that the Lord has made. I will rejoice and be glad in it” Ps 118:24. We can also do “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”, Phil 4:13. Another one can be “Choose this day who you will serve”, Joshua 24:15. Maybe we can leave a scripture by our toothbrush or on our car seat so we can remember. Can you think of some other places that might help you remember to say a scripture?
Another way we can begin with God is to pray. Starting our day with prayer is a great way to begin our day. Prayer at mealtime and bedtime is important too and even prayer when we start our car rides is a wonderful way to remember to begin with God. Prayer is talking to God. There are lots of things we can talk to God about. We can ask Him for help for ourselves or someone else. We can use a scripture to do this. For example, we can say I choose you God so help me to show this choice in every situation today. We can ask Him to help our friends or neighbors who might be sick or afraid. We can thank Him for help with homework or tests and say I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. God loves when you use scripture while you talk Him. We can also pray for people who are not being nice to us or to help us to be nice to others. God also likes to hear from us when we aren’t asking for things too. He likes to know we love Him and grateful for Him. What are some things we can be grateful to God for? We can thank Him for the warm sun, pretty flowers, family to love, protecting us while we sleep, friends that make us laugh or even yummy food. We can thank Him for helping us to learn new things and for all our new adventures. What are some new adventures you have had, maybe a family trip, a walk through the woods a field trip or trip to a fun place? We can thank God for those. God is always listening and always wants to help so we just ask Him anytime of day or night. He wants to hear from us so let’s look at some of ways we can try to remember some of the other things we can talk to Him about with something God already gave us, our 5 fingers.
